Indian Premier League is the biggest event in T20 franchise cricket. After a sensational finish to the 16th edition, the auction for the IPL 2024 season is around the corner. Cricket fans will be excited to find out the retention list of all franchises, the bidding war for domestic and overseas players, and the list of players in the unsold list. 

IPL Auction 2024

The IPL Auction 2024 will bring plenty of excitement as some of the top performers in the 2023 World Cup, a few excellent domestic performers in the Syed Mushtaq Trophy, and those released by franchises will find themselves in the auction mix. A bidding war will likely happen for Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Starc, Ravi Teja, Bipin Saurabh, etc. 

IPL 2024 Auction Date

The IPL 2023 auction will be held on December 19. The ten teams must submit their retention list before the auction, and each franchise can register a maximum of 25 players, including eight overseas players.

IPL 2024 Auction Venue

The BCCI has confirmed that the IPL 2024 auction will be held in Dubai. Though the IPL was played in South Africa and the UAE in the past, it is the first time an overseas venue has been chosen to conduct the auction.

IPL 2024 Auction Retention List

While cricket fans are eager to know the entire list of players retained and released, it is yet to be officially announced. The franchises must submit the list of players retained and released by November 26. The franchises will look to strike the perfect balance, as they are more likely to maintain the core group of players. Romario Shepherd has been traded to Mumbai Indians from Lucknow Super Giants for a fee of ₹50 lakh.

Franchises will be keen to strengthen their squad in the IPL 2024 auction by bringing some quality T20 players. Chennai Super Kings faithful will want MS Dhoni to play in the yellow jersey another season. On the other hand, fans of Royal Challengers Bangalore will hope for better luck under a serial trophy-winning coach, Andy Flower. With Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer in their ranks, Mumbai Indians will want to return to the top four.
