The India squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup squad has a perfect mix of youth and experienced players. The I5-member squad, which is strong and well-balanced, has at least one representative from eight of the ten IPL franchises. In the 2011 and 2015 World Cups, Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni was India’s captain, while former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli led India in the 2019 World Cup.

IPL Teams with Most Players in the 2023 World Cup India Squad

IPL is the numero uno tournament among T20 franchise leagues worldwide. It has contributed some outstanding cricketers to Indian and various national teams over the years. Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, etc., have made their market in the international arena through the ten-team tournament.

The following is the list of IPL franchises and their list of players who will represent India in the 2023 World Cup:

  1. Chennai Super Kings – Ravindra Jadeja
  2. Delhi Capitals – Kuldeep Yadav
  3. Gujarat Titans – Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, and Mohammad Shami
  4. Kolkata Knight Riders – Shardul Thakur and Shreyas Iyer
  5. Lucknow Super Giants – KL Rahul
  6. Mumbai Indians – Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav
  7. Rajasthan Royals – Ravichandran Ashwin
  8. Royal Challengers Bangalore – Mohammed Siraj and Virat Kohli

Here’s a look at the IPL franchise’s players list in the 2023 India World Cup squad in brief:

Mumbai Indians

As many as four players from the Mumbai Indians are a part of India’s World Cup squad for the 2023 World Cup. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav, and wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan are the Mumbai Indians’ representatives in the Indian 2023 World Cup team. While Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah will indeed feature in the playing 11, Suryakumar Kumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan’s role will be restricted to the bench as Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have returned from injuries.

Gujarat Titans

Three Gujarat Titans players have made it to the Indian squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Hardik Pandya, the vice-captain, will be the leading all-rounder in the playing 11. Shubman Gill, in brilliant form, will open the innings with Rohit Sharma. Mohammed Shami’s place in the playing 11 is uncertain, as India might opt to go with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj as their preferred seamers.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj are two Royal Challengers Bangalore players in India’s 2023 ODI World Cup squad. Both players are crucial and will feature in India’s playing 11. Virat Kohli will bat at number three, while Mohammed Siraj will likely open the bowling attack with Jasprit Bumrah.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Shardul Thakur and Shreyas Iyer are two Kolkata Knight Riders players in the Indian squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup. While Shreyas Iyer is highly likely to make it to the playing 11, Shardul Thakur’s presence depends on the opponent and the playing conditions.

Lucknow Super Giants

KL Rahul, the Lucknow Super Giants’ lone representative in India’s 15-member squad, is one of the key members of the Indian team for the 2023 ODI World Cup. He is set to play at number five and keep the wickets for India. The Lucknow Super Giants captain is good at rotating the strike in the middle overs and can accelerate the tempo.

Chennai Super Kings

Ravindra Jadeja is the only player from the Chennai Super Kings who will represent India in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Rohit Sharma will rely on the CSK all-rounder to control the fun flow and pick up a few wickets in the middle overs. He is most likely to bat at number seven, where his job will be to score some quick runs.

Delhi Capitals

Kuldeep Yadav, a talented spinner, is the lone Delhi Capitals representative in the 2023 World Cup India squad. Many batters face a lot of trouble while playing Kuldeep due to his variations. The left-arm wrist spinner can pick wickets regularly and bundle out the opposition quickly.

Rajasthan Royals

Ravichandran Ashwin, who was part of India’s 2011 World Cup winning squad, is the only player from the Rajasthan Royals to feature in India’s 15-member  2023 ODI World Cup squad. He is not a certainty in the playing 11 unless India decides to go with the three spinners. Ashwin’s variations and experience will be a big positive for the Indian team.

Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad are the two franchises that don’t have a single player from their team in the 2023 ODI World Cup Indian squad.

Concluding Thoughts

India has a strong squad of 15 players for the ODI World Cup 2023. The IPL influence and experience have helped a few players to establish themselves as world-class cricketers, and they are crucial to India’s hopes of winning a third ODI World Cup.
